Diabetic Neuropathy

Diabetic neuropathy is nerve damage caused by diabetes. High blood sugar can reduce the blood flow to the feet cuasing damage to the nerves. Neuropathy are at a higher risk of foot infections and amputations due to the loss of feeling in the feet. Nerve damage caused by neuropathy is essentially irreversible and therapy is typically directed toward reducing symptoms.

Conventional Treatments for Neuropathy

Your medical doctor may prescribe certain medications that help with neuropathy symptoms. These include:

  • Tricyclic anti-depressant such as Elavil (amitriptyline)
  • Anti-seizure medication such as Neurontin (gabapentin)
  • Selective Serotonin and Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor (SSNRI) anti-depressant such as Cymbalta (duloxetine)

Natural Treatments for Neuropathy
