Heart disease is the number 1 killer in Alabama, according to the American Hearth Association.  It is the leading cause of death for both men and women.  Stroke is the number 4 cause of death in the state.  To prevent heart disease and increase awareness of its effects, Rosemarie Caillier, DPM, PC, is proudly participating in American Heart Month.  Alabama has the 2nd highest death rate from cardiovascular disease in the county. With almost 70% of the state’s population being overweight or obese, it is critical to help the community live a healthier lifestyle.

You can make healthy changes to lower your risk of developing heart disease.  Controlling and preventing risk factors is also important for people who already have heart disease. To lower your risk:

  • Watch your weight
  • Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke
  • Control your cholesterol and blood pressure
  • Get active and eat healthy
