There are a number of organizations and websites that offer patient education and information. The following are some that I’ve found most reliable to get you started living healthy and active on your feet.
American Podiatric Medical Association – national association of podiatrists providing facts and tips on foot care.
Alabama Podiatric Medical Association – state association of podiatrists
National Diabetes Education Program – diabetes education website with a free publication “Take Care of Your Feet for a Lifetime.”
Lower Extremity Amputation Prevention (LEAP) – U.S. Dept of Health & Human service program to help reduce amputation in people who have loss of protective sensation in the feet.
American Diabetes Association – nonprofit organization with information on all aspects of diabetes including Foot Care and Foot Complications.
Arthritis Foundation – nonprofit with information on various arthritic diseases including those common in the feet like gout, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Weight-Control Information Network (WIN) – an information service of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) with numerous free resources to help people reach health and fitness goals such as “Walking… A Step in the Right Direction”.
National Institute of Aging – offers Free Stuff as part of their Go4Life campaign to help people fit exercise and physical activity into daily life.  They provide tip sheets, exercise DVD, exercise guide book, and Spanish resources.
